FAQs – Pre Admissions

FAQs-Pre-Admissions

Changes is a drug and alcohol rehab situated in Johannesburg. It offers all three phases of rehabilitation: primary, secondary, and tertiary.

Coming into rehab can leave many questions unanswered, especially since each facility has a different set of rules. Inpatient facilities are highly contained environments, and this is for a good reason.

Patients who come into this type of care are vulnerable, as the progression of their disease of addiction is severe and needs urgent medical and psychological intervention.

Below are some of the most commonly asked pre-admission questions from patients. We want you to know that we have your best interest at heart.

Is My Addiction Bad Enough For Drug Rehab?

If you feel like you are facing an array of negative consequences because of your substance abuse, then you may need to seek treatment in a drug rehab.

It is essential to be open and honest with yourself when evaluating your situation, but the fact that you are already asking yourself this question is a tell-tale sign.

We understand that coming to terms with your or a loved one’s situation is complicated; guilt, shame, and remorse come to the forefront, and it is an unpleasant experience.

At Changes Addiction Rehab, you will be in a safe environment away from harmful situations, environments, and triggers, allowing yourself to heal physically, emotionally, and mentally.

You will be introduced to living a life in recovery and given the tools to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Do You Accept Medical Aid?

Yes, Changes has partnered with different medical aid providers to make staying at our facility more accessible.

When you make that first call, our admissions team will guide you through any co-payments or out-of-pocket costs that need to be paid.

We have partnered with the following Medical Aid Providers;

  • Discovery
  • Gems
  • Polmed
  • Momentum

What Happens If My Medical Aid Doesn’t Cover?

Our inpatient facility has partnered with many healthcare providers to ensure that most people who admit themselves will be covered. However, if it occurs that your medical aid does not cover our facility, we will refer you to a drug and alcohol rehab that will.

At our facility, we want you to get the help you need. We understand the pain that comes with substance use disorders and only wish that you make a full recovery.

What Is The Admissions Process?

You will be transferred to our admissions department when you call our inpatient rehab facility. They will conduct a brief online assessment to better understand the severity of your substance use disorder.

Once that information has been obtained, they will guide you as to which phase of treatment is suitable for you. It is usually recommended that inpatient treatment be completed before any other phase of treatment is considered.

Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by one of our friendly recovery assistants, who will begin your admissions process. If you have any questions regarding the facility, process, rules, or patient rights, the recovery assistant will guide and help you.

The intake process involves undergoing the following steps:

  • Handover of precious belongings that are put into a safe.
  • Thorough bag search.
  • Drug test.
  • Medical evaluation by healthcare professional.

Once you have completed the above, you will be taken to the community area, where you will be introduced to your peers and welcomed into the community. Your allocated counsellor will assign you a buddy who will explain the community facility’s rules and what happens daily.

Your buddy will organise an inpatient file, where you will keep all your written Stepwork and allocated assignments that your counsellor has given you.

How Do I Get To Rehab?

Once you have decided to admit yourself into Changes, our team will assist you with all the logistics around the admission process, including transportation if needed.

Can I Bring My Electronics?

We emphasise the importance of having a fresh, clear mind during the therapeutic program.

When you undergo the admissions process on arrival, your electronics will be taken and put into a safe until your stay has been completed. We will hand them back to you once you leave.

Patients who reside in inpatient rehabs are most at risk; having electronics may tempt them to contact bad people and possibly be triggered by external influences. Phones, laptops, and music can distract from the therapeutic process, and patients won’t benefit from the program; because of this, electronics are removed.

Can I Leave The Facility As I Please?

Due to the intensity of care and the vulnerability of the inpatients, we do not allow pass-outs or visitations. However, we allow phone calls to loved ones during your stay.

Do I Have To Undergo A Medical Detox?

Yes, completing a medical detox during your stay at our inpatient facility is vital.

The primary objective of a medical detox is to strengthen the patient physically and mentally so that they can participate in the inpatient treatment program.

Can My Stay In Rehab Be Strictly Confidential?

Yes, you control who will have access to your progression updates. We will only share your information or updates on your condition with people on your consent form.

Can My Loved Ones Visit Me?

Changes Addiction Rehab does not allow visitations at our inpatient treatment facility. Inpatient rehab is the most intense level of addiction care, and we understand that our patients need to be in a highly contained environment during this phase.

However, we allow phone calls during the week and on weekends.

Can I Be Fired From My Job For Admitting Myself Into Rehab?

We urge our clients to familiarise themselves with their legal rights concerning employment and rehabilitation. In many jurisdictions, some laws safeguard individuals who admit themselves into inpatient rehab facilities for substance use disorders.

Our team is equipped to offer assistance and resources in navigating discussions with employers.

Can Avoiding Rehab Lead To Job Loss?

Ignoring a substance use disorder can cause problems in the workplace due to decreased performance, frequently missing work, and, in some cases, being fired.

Getting treatment is a safe way to ensure you keep your job and maintain a healthy work environment.

Can I Continue My Education While I Stay In Rehab?

At Changes, we understand that it is valuable to keep growing and learning in your career; we have flexible inpatient rehab programs so that you can focus on your recovery while still pursuing your education.

What are the Physical Health Implications Of Not Going To Rehab?

There are a considerable amount of health implications that accompany addiction, such as the risk of chronic diseases, mental health disorders, and even life-threatening illnesses.

Inpatient rehab is a stepping stone to recovery; it not only treats the individual’s substance use disorder but also improves overall well-being and health.

Can I Force Someone Into Inpatient Rehab?

Although adults cannot be forced into rehab involuntarily, we offer intervention services that are designed to assist families in helping their loved ones consider treatment.

Our approach prioritises all individuals’ dignity and strives to cultivate an atmosphere conducive to recovery.
